Maggie Keenan-Bolger
Dr. Joan Shelley W. Fernandez Point Alumna
Point Scholar: 2009-2010
City University of New York
Applied Theatre
Maggie attended Oberlin College for her undergraduate work and found a passion in combining her majors of Theatre and Gender and Women’s Studies. While there, she wrote, produced and performed in a semi-autobiographical play, From the Inside, Out, based on real-life experiences.
Maggie used theatre to facilitate, activate and educate in her Applied Theatre Program at City University of New York where she received her Master of Arts. In addition to touring with From the Inside, Out, performing at various high schools and colleges, she also runs her own theatre company, 4th Meal Productions, and works with under-privileged youth, using theatre as a teaching tool. Maggie is currently a Time Warner STAR’s intern working in the New York Public Library’s LGBT Collections where she has access to large range of LGBT materials available to New York Public Library Patrons and disseminates that information through their blog. Maggie is still involved with Applied Theatre Program by attending and presenting at a variety of conferences across the country. In August she will be presenting a workshop based on her thesis project at a conference in San Francisco.
She hopes to eventually start her own LGBT Youth Theatre where members can devise theatre pieces based on their life experiences and interests, giving an often-silenced community a voice and a venue for expression by attending a pre-conference geared towards theatre-oriented activities for students who identify as LGBT.
