Mark was raised in Ferndale, Washington, a small town close to the Canadian border. Brought up in an extremely conservative and religious household, Mark received a very negative reception when he came out. His family’s religious views left absolutely no room for understanding or acceptance- there would be no compromise. Mark was ostracized from their lives, and was left to lead a life of independence at the age of sixteen.

Despite hardship, giving back to the community and excelling academically have always been top priorities for Mark. He attended college courses while in high school and graduated a year early. To help fund his education he worked multiple jobs. In the last few years, Mark has been involved with the ONE campaign, an effort to rally Americans to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. While studying the Bay area this past year, Mark volunteered for the Meals on Wheels as a volunteer assistant event coordinator and helped organize Star Chefs & Vintners Gala, as well as other smaller events.

Mark will be attending Woodbury University and pursuing a degree in Business Management. He aspires to be the director of event management and planning.
